CircumBurke 2013-Remembering Amy Dombroski

All current able bodied students and a few staff participated in the third annual Circumburke Mountain Bike Challenge on Sunday, October 27 in memory of alumna Amy Dombroski.   Circumburke is an event organized and sponsored by Kingdom Trails, Conservation Collaboratives and the Burke Area Chamber.  Participants are " invited to push their limits over the “wild side” of Burke Mountain on rarely used singletrack and logging trails, through forests and fields. Surrounded by breathtaking fall scenery, the Circumburke is an adventure for all."

We thought the event was appropriate because it not only captures Amy's spirit, it was conceived as and is a celebration of Dave Blumenthal ‘s life.  Dave was an avid endurance athlete, adventurer, industrial and museum exhibit designer, writer and artist who lived in Montpelier, Vermont.  Dave died tragically while racing in the 2010 Tour Divide, a 2,745 mile, self-supported mountain bike race across the spine of the Rockies, from the Canada to Mexico.

The BMA community read Bryce Hubner's article, "Remembering Amy Dombroski," in reading period on Friday, October 25 for inspiration.  All BMA participants wore a "green for grit" ribbon in remembrance of Amy.
