On Saturday the Men's soccer team traveled to Winooski for a re-match on their turf. As Rolf informed us, it is "one of Vermont's smallest and most densely populated towns.... [it measures] only 1.5 square miles into which are packed 7,000+ residents, many of them resettled refugees from Asia (primarily Bhutan and Nepal) and from several African and Middle Eastern countries. Hence, about 90% of the Winooski team is comprised of non-Americans or naturalized citizens."
Our guys played an awesome game. We controlled the ball in their territory much of the time. It was fun to watch our guys as they coordinated passes and continually fed Christian, Matt Wilson, and Chase up front. We had a ton of shots, but unfortunately none went in. Kalle had a few awesome saves in the net and the game was scoreless until about 10 minutes to go when Winooski got a scrappy shot past him. Final score was 1-0.
The game was so entertaining and nerve-wracking that I forgot to take pictures until the last few minutes. As you can see in the photos, no one could stay seated on the bench. The anticipation and energy were high.
BMA graciously congratulated the Winooski team on a hard fought game.
