Senior Trip Community Service: Northwoods Stewardship Center
The seniors began their first of two days of service at the Northwoods Stewardship Center in East Charleston, VT. The center's mission is to empower new generations to appreciate, understand and wisely use the land through science, education and action. Here the students are having lunch and then helping to restore a main trail that has water erosion issues.
Freshman History Class heads to the Boston Museum of Fine Arts
Last Friday Chambo's Freshman Western Civ class took a field trip down to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston to see what it was all about. They were also treated to some excellent cooking at the Katz's house. Although it was a very quick trip, it seems like they all came away with an appreciation of some of the amazing things that can be found outside of the BMA campus!

Last Chemistry Lab of the Year
Yesterday was the last chemistry lab of the year. The students ended the term with a focus on
organic chemistry. In class we had a
demonstration on the super-absorbent properties of the polymer Sodium
polyacrylate (in diapers). Then students
mixed Elmer's glue solution with Sodium borate to make their own
"gack", a silly putty type of material. This type of polymer is called an elastomer.
Sincerely,
Lindley

sponsored by Littleton Bike and Fitness owner Dave Harkless and organized by
Melanie Harkless 5th grade teacher and Chad Carter the school’s
physical education teacher. Students
assisted with registration, bike maintenance, helmet fitting and an obstacle
course. Principal Mike Chronin was
impressed with our students and hopes we can return again next year!

Wheeler Pond Thunder Snow
Eight of us just got back from a
memorable Memorial Day Weekend trip to Wheeler Pond. As the weekend
approached, the weather forecast continued to get nastier, finally
culminating in a prediction of snow. As we were leaving several
people commented that it was a bummer about the weather. I assured
them that Burkies didn't worry about such things. Their response
tended to: "yeah, they'll come up with other ways to have fun."
That's not what I meant. The kids on this trip (and the plans
they've made) were indifferent to the weather. Sure enough, when we
arrived at Wheeler Pond, there was snow mixing in with the rain.
Once we got the wood stove going in the cabin, three of us headed out
for a hike. From an overlook we saw the others canoeing in the pond.
Once it was obvious that the stove had enough power to roast the
interior of the cabin, Fredrik decided to go swimming, followed by
Harry, then followed by Dani, Anna and Moriah, and finally by Mike,
Audrey and myself. The late afternoon brought with it some thunder
snow. Dusk and darkness brought more canoeing. Cleaning up after
our return to campus on Sunday morning, I commented to a die-hard
Wheeler Pond veteran that this once maybe one of the best trips.
It's hard to judge, but he agreed that the ratio of positive attitude
to adverse weather was definitely high on this trip.

FLASHBACK to 2003 - The Green Mountain Run 212/24
Excitement and anticipation for this year's Green Mountain Run is building. Eight days. Here's a flashback to GMR ten years ago. Thanks Heddi Siebel, alumni parent, for producing and sharing.
The Green Mountain Run: 212/24
Seniors are picking their runs today, followed by the PGs, Juniors, Sophomores, then Freshmen. Van design ideas are brewing, and we're all keeping our fingers crossed for sunshine on June 2nd & 3rd!
