U16 Community Service Week Day 1

From Sarah:  Today was our first day of community service. We've been split up into three different teams, all going to different places, to work on building and designing new bike trails. My group was spilt up into two smaller teams, one to work on building berm turns and another to rake out the trail. Pat, Gray, Bella, and I started the day off with two huge piles of dirt and went home with two pretty sick berms. I'm excited to see what the trails look like at the end of this week, we've already made so much progress and it's only been one day!

Quick note on biology...  During the late summer, bees and hornets are preparing their nests for winter.  Since they won't be able to successfully start a new nest and stock it up with food, they are more protective of what they've got.  Gray and Patrick (shown below) found this out as they were digging within a few feet of a nest.

Multitasking

The three legs of the stool at BMA are Community, Athletics and Academics.

In this short video, Sophie demonstrates how to hit all three at once:  furnishing her dorm to improve residential life; getting in an extra workout; reimagining the struggles of Sisyphus in a modern context.

Morning Hike

Always a gasp when one emerges from the woods to look upon the view toward the gap.  Hard to see the gap in this picture (toward the left on the horizon) but we could just see it through the clouds and mist.

Algebra 2 students are collecting and analyzing data in order to write mathematical models.  They are using GeoGebra, Fathom and graphing calculators to analyze the data and interpret their models.
