Cider Sunday at Cecelia's Orchard

What better way to spend a sunny fall Sunday than picking fruit and making cider? A van load of students headed to Sutton to do just that...

Blatantly ignoring the warning signs when we stopped by Brandon's house to check the status of his foundation repairs. Living dangerously out in Sutton:

Wie heisst "monkey" auf Deutsch? Ella getting the high ones:

Ladders can be dangerous. Use a buddy instead. Parker and Anna picking plums:

Isabel, Sarah, and Ella getting ready to press some apples.

But first you have to grind them up. We use bicycle power:

Olivia ready to grind some apples. The grinder is the red thing, it's hooked up to the bike:

Anna, taking a break with the hostess.

Paige, enjoying the fruits of her labor:

Anna holding a sample from two different varieties of apples. The darker one on the right was the unanimous favorite (the apples were more ripe. Still too early for some of these varieties):

Week 1 in Photos

From Opening Day to Orientation, Physical Testing, Classes, Soccer and Work outs... we had a big week! I couldn't include all the photos but below gives you a feel for some of it.

Orientation:
"What words describe the Burke Process?"

"Why do we value the Burke Process?"

 Physical Testing:

With what seemed like the whole school cheering him on, Chris O'Brien crushed the beep test.

Darrell revived the infamous "Knee Touch Squats" at Willoughby Lake for our final physical test. The heart and soul that comes out during KTSs is unmatched. Props to all athletes who gave 100% effort for the 85/100 secs (girls/guys).

While the guys headed to a couple soccer games this week (photos later I'm sure), the girls headed to Lake Willoughby for more fun times. They hiked up and over Mt. Pisgah, which is the right-hand mountain of the Gap when looking from campus. Most had never hiked it. Then they hit up the rope swing and Devil's Rock. Some good summertime and limit-pushing activities!

Some Recent Bike Rides

I've been asked by our Burkies to do some great riding with them. On Thursday afternoon I went for a 53 mile, 3 hour road bike ride with Jack B and Matt P. On Friday morning I went for a group MTB ride with some beginner girls. They are having fun and improving every day!
