Greetings from Italy
Greetings from Italy! We've been having a great trip, the training has been good, the food excellent and the kids are working hard and having fun. We spent our first two days in Tarvisio Italy, near the Austrian and Slovenian borders, for a day of freeskiing and a day of GS training. On the 4th we drove to Kranjska Gora (a 20 min drive) to watch the men's WC GS, it was a rainy day but a great experience. After the race we packed up the vans and drove 4.5 hours to Paganella near Trento, here we have had excellent training, beautiful weather and yes more good food! Tomorrow we drive 1.5 hours to Folgaria for one more day of training on Thursday before our races on the 10th and 11th. Zoe and Reed are doing well, having fun and fired up for some racing. We look forward to meeting up with Raph, Xavier and maybe Ella too. Attached is group photo from our training session today. From left to right, Zoe, Tanner Graves (KMS), Reed, Olivia Holm (SMS), Diego Holscher (SMS/Chile), Jenna Braun (SMS), Aiden Mann (SMS).
Ciao,
Jeff

Math in the Snow
While attending the Seven Nations Cup in Europe, Chip Knight sent us this picture of Patrick Coughlin doing math in the snow with his ski pole. Here’s Pat’s side of the story:
“As we were waiting around for the nine o’clock lift in Berchtesgaden, Germany one of the coaches took out his range finder. All the guys outside were guessing the distances of different objects around the ski area. I took the rangefinder and shot the distance of the top of one tree. Then shot the bottom of the tree. One coach proceeded to ask me what the height of the tree was. I knew I could use the Pythagorean Theorem to find the height. I had the length of C to the top of the tree and A to the base of the tree and had to find B, the height of tree. I calculated the height of the tree to be 31 meters.”

Vermont Cup Finals at Burke 2-12-17
We hosted the VARA Vermont Cup GS Finals this past weekend and were able to squeeze both runs in before the big snowstorm really got started. Burkies once again had some great results and lots of fun!
