Wednesday Road Ride

Brandon, Timmy, Liam, and McKenna did a 20 mile road ride on a mix of dirt and pavement. With only a few miles to go McKenna flatted on 114 but impressed all with a speedy tube change.

Fun with Logs

Darrell is at it again.  Tuesday's workout for the men was "Fun with logs" (the women did it on Monday but unfortunately we weren't able to get photos) . You can see for yourself just how much fun it was for the athletes by checking out these photos. Video coming soon!

Burke Bike Swap

BMA sophomores hosted the second annual Burke Bike Swap on Saturday, May 3 at MidBurke Lodge.  The success of last year's inaugural event was evident as the number of sellers, buyers and proceeds increased significantly.  The students accepted consignment items Friday evening and along with Village Sport Shop sold all types of bikes and bicycle accessories on Saturday.  The students were industrious, professional, and helpful as they set up merchandise, assisted customers, and performed clerk and accounting responsibilities.  The event raised $1150 for Kingdom Kids, a local non-profit that works to provide outdoor recreational opportunities to Northeast Kingdom children who would not otherwise have the chance to bike, ski, snowboard and skate.

Drop off Friday night with Yale, Abby, Chase, Olivia and Sarah.
Clerks: Matt W, Chase, Paige, Sophie, Abby, Olivia, Lexi.  Spreadsheet accountant Ava, and verifier of receipts, Bay.

Shoppers!
 Yale assisting customers.
Equipment experts: Matt H, Sven, Yale, and Ollie.

VT Green Up Day!

On Saturday morning Burkies participated in Vermont's "Green Up" day. People all over the state walked the streets picking up trash in an effort to make our state greener. We were tasked with Mountain Road from Rt. 114 to Mid-Burke Lodge, as well as Alpine Lane from school around the condo loop to the Sherburne Baselodge. We spent a couple hours collecting trash and recycling. The general sentiment was that the students couldn't believe how much trash was on the sides of the roads. The instructions were for each student to bring two big black trash bags with them, and they couldn't believe they would each fill two - but they did! I also asked around for the most interesting finds. The list includes: two pocket knives, a dollar, a full set of keys, a sneaker, a diaper, a dog bed, a muffler, an old Mid-Burke Lodge sign, and a Pepsi can made of tin (SO old!).

Lindley and I provided instructions for the students (thanks to Darrell for organizing it!)

Run Around the Mountain with Liz Stephen!

When Liz, Nolan, Trace and Ida were here on Wednesday they shared their favorite memories of Burke.  One of the many things that they talked about was the run around the mountain that became a pre-graduation tradition. Darrell was so inspired that he decided it would be Friday morning's workout.  Liz was still in town and happy to join us!

The mud was a little bit deep

And a little bit cold
