Here are Tatum and Patrick training at Hinterreit earlier today. Looks just like Burke, right?

Tater (and Patrick) in Euroland!

Tatum qualified to represent the US at the Seven Nations Cup in Europe this month, and as part of the trip she got to spectate at Kitzbuhel; she sent these pics to our (very active) U16 Girls group chat. Looks amazing! You can even spot Patrick in one shot - he's been in Austria for a week or so and represented the US in the Hahnenkamm Juniors race last week and will also be racing in the Seven Nations Cup.

Tatum, Patrick, and the rest of the US group are training at Hinterreit through Thursday. At this precise moment they are working hard in study hall, which we can confirm by this picture sent by the international paparazzi. HI TATE!

On the Podium

Gold and Bronze for Lena and Sammi, Sophie and Carissa rounded out the top ten in 4th and 7th!

Last week I had a chance to visit Burke. This fun photo is from the U14 panel slalom.  The kids skied great, and Burkies reached the podium on a lot of levels that week.  Here are a few examples. That U14 race was the only race not cancelled in Vermont, and the U16 race the next weekend had over 200 racers. The whole community gets on the podium for putting on those events. With the training hill up and running, we enjoyed some home cooking and BMA athletes also stood on the podium at Cochran’s, Stowe, Sugarbush and Stratton. Back in school, the kids rocked the dining hall with a slam poetry contest and impressed the trustees with their passion and care for the school. We even got to the bottom of some missing cookie dough.  Reaching for the podium happens in a lot of ways.  -Jory

Race Day at BMA

Sunday, January 17 BMA hosted a VT Cup Slalom on Warren's Way. Almost all of the school participated as racers, volunteers or spectators. It made for a fun day with lots of smiles to go around. Here are a few photos from the day...

Getting to Know You

Isabelle, Bart, Lizzy, Anna, Tess and McKenna after dinner.  (Martha took the photo!)

Last night, Martha and I caught up with some of the FIS girls in Utah.  Early on in the conversation, I asked the girls: “Martha has a 6:00 Crossfit work out tomorrow.  Should she wake up that early?”

“Of course!” they all immediately replied. “You’ll see us running by your house next year at that time.”

That’s what I love about Burke. How many teenagers would have that response? It is the beautiful, passionate Burkie answer.

At dinner, the girls peppered me with some questions on different topics about school. Wearing their hearts on their sleeves, they would comment “Now I like you more!” or “Now I like you less!” as I answered their questions. Their sense of ownership of the school inspires.

We can’t wait to get there.  (And I will be at BMA next week: Jan 10-16. Come say hello.)

Bluebird at Burke, yay!

It is SO good to be back on the training hill this week! And it's even better because the weather has been amazing (cold on Tuesday, but perfect on Wednesday) and the snow is unbelievable. Yay!

This afternoon Viv and her stats students hit the Kingdom Trails for their fat bike demo day. A great way to kick off the new year!
